GENERAL SERVICES

The Library offers books, magazines and audio books for check out. Videos may be rented for a small fee, and some videos are loaned for free. Internet access, subscriptions to several newspapers, resources about local history and genealogy are available for use at the Library. The Library offers a photocopier, fax machine, word processing equipment, a quiet study area and a meeting room for public use. Programs for adults, young adults and children are held at various times during the year. For more information about programming for a specific age group, see the appropriate link on the left.

Circulation Periods:

  • Books and audiobooks circulate for 3 weeks.
  • New adult fiction books circulate for 2 weeks.
  • Magazines circulate for 1 week. The newest issue of Adult magazines may not be checked out.
  • Videos circulate for either 1 week or overnight, at a cost of $2.00. Some videos have no rental charge. All late videos are subject to a $1.00 fine per day.

Interlibrary Loan: Materials not owned by Briggs Public Library may be available for loan from other libraries. Library patrons must be in good standing to request/receive materials. A maximum of three inter-library loan requests may be made per patron, per day. Materials borrowed through Briggs Public Library must be returned to Briggs Public Library.

Internet: Access to the Internet is available to all library patrons free of charge. Several subscription databases are available for research, including: Infotrac, FirstSearch, and Ancestry Plus. An Internet User Registration form must be filled out before your first use. Minors must have a parent or legal guardian come in to the library to fill out this form for them. Printing is available from the Internet for a charge of $.25 per page.

Reference Services: Our friendly, knowledgeable staff is available to help patrons locate items and answer reference questions in the library or over the telephone.

Public Meeting Rooms: A Meeting Room is available without charge to organizations for recreational, cultural and civic purposes. The room is not available for religious services, partisan political rallies, or for purely social occasions. Groups using the room are responsible for staying within the 25-person capacity of the room. For additional information or to book this room, please contact the library at (989) 224-4702.

A Quiet Study Room is available on a first-come-first-serve basis for those who need a quiet area away from the activity in the library.

The Library's Bement Room provides materials for researching genealogy and local history. Use of this room is regulated, please stop at the main desk to sign in.

Tax Forms: The library serves as a distribution center for local, state, and federal tax forms. Many forms are available pre-printed in the library, starting January 2nd of each year. Access to even more documents is available from the library via a reproducible tax form book at a cost of $.25 per page, or on the Internet through the links available on our Internet Resources page.

Other Services: A photocopier is available to the public at a cost of $.25 per page. Sending and receiving of faxes is available at the Library. Incoming faxes are $1.00 per page. Outgoing fax charges are: $.50 per page for local or toll-free numbers, $1.00 per page for faxes in Michigan, $2.00 per page for out-of-state (but in-country). Word Processing computers are available for the public. Documents may be printed at a cost of $.25 per page.
